Current Students

Student using a video cameraWelcome to the School of Journalism at the University of Montana! We are so pleased you’ve chosen us and know you have embarked on an educational experience second to none. We have a very hands-on approach; you will learn by practicing journalism while you are a student. Expect to write newspaper articles on deadline, produce radio news reports, document through photographs and video what’s happening around Montana and get it all published or broadcast by professional outlets.

Your faculty has a wealth of experience in journalism. Every member has at least ten years professional experience; most have much more. They’ve worked for daily newspapers, alternative weeklies, radio and television stations, magazines and online news organizations in Montana, the Northwest, around the country and the world. Their contacts are current and deep, which means you’ll have the benefit of landing a great internship or first job.

We are an accredited school of journalism which means your courses are current and demanding, your class sizes will be small, and you will have the best equipment and facilities to conduct your work. Ours is an open-door policy, so when you need help, your faculty and staff will be here for you.
