Professor Swibold to give talk about school archives
As part of the Archives Month celebration, J-School professor Dennis Swibold will give a talk on how the archives helped the J-School explore it’s past and celebrate it’s Centennial.
Swibold will discuss the history of the J-School and give an overview of the research conducted to document the school’s history and touch on his own time spent in the archives.
“I’m going to talk about the school’s history, but I’m also going to talk about what we found in the course of putting together our magazines and other pieces and how important our archives were to that work,” he said. “And I’m going to show lots of pictures that we got from the archives.”
Swibold said archives are a really useful resource that people should know are available. While digging through the archives, Swibold said he’s found really interesting documents; from fairly intimate letters between friends to trash talk between political opponents.
“It was like you’re reading the gossip as it was happening and you can kind of see these people in 3D for the first time,” Swibold said. “I love that. I feel privileged to be looking at this stuff.”
The talk will take place in the Theta Rho Room on the fourth floor of the Mansfield Library from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 22.
