Summer Journalism and Media Camp

When 35 high school students showed up on the University of Montana campus for the first day of journalism summer camp in July, they immediately went on assignment.

And, we didn't give them an easy assignment. They were tasked with spending three days covering one big – and complicated – topic: the future of journalism.

They learned about journalism's role in our democracy, how local news can support and connect communities and how to practice journalism carefully and ethically. They interviewed and photographed leaders in media in Montana and beyond. They also got some great photos, wrote some great stories and created some great designs.

And, they had a bit of fun too.

Below is a gallery of some of the stories, photos and designs the students produced as well as a peek behind the scenes at camp.
