Photojournalism students shine at First Friday exhibits

Two downtown Missoula galleries will host photo exhibits featuring Montana Journalism student work this month. The photo exhibits will be part of the March First Friday events at The Dark Room and Bhavana Gallery.

The Dark Room exhibit was curated by photojournalism senior Tommy Martino. He said the subjects are diverse, including landscapes, abstract art, concerts, sports and news.

"The quality of work really impressed me, we have some very talented photographers in our school. I am truly am privileged to be the curator of the show," he said.

The selected photographs were taken by journalism students, from freshmen to seniors.

Student photos from a January study abroad trip to India comprise the exhibit at Bhavana gallery. The photos were curated by senior Kelsey Wardwell who calls the exhibit a well-rounded representation of the places and people the students came across in India.

She said, “People should come see them to support student work and get a glimpse of a culture they have never seen before.” The showcase is part of UM’s India Week celebration.
